光緒とは中国の「清」の時代に使用された年号である。そのため、この時代を治めていた徳宗は「光緒帝」と称されている。
江南省は、中国の清代の省名であり、現在は江蘇省、安徽省、上海市となっており、広大だったことがわかる。
光緒元宝と一圓銀貨が初めて中国本土で作られた貨幣とされている。表には上下右左の順に「光緒元宝」という文字が中央に刻まれ、その周りに漢字が並んでいる。裏には竜が描かれている。
