第二次大戦中の1942年、ビルマ人から成る反イギリス植民地支配勢力であるビルマ独立義勇軍に協力する形で日本はビルマに進軍。1942年8月1日には、名ばかりであるがビルマは植民地支配からの独立を宣言した。当時は日本による傀儡政権が初代大統領のバー・モウによって指導されていた。この傀儡政権は1年半以上にわたって続き、アウンサン率いる民族主義者によって1944年に反ファシスト人民自由連盟が結成された。彼らはイギリスに協力を打診し、1945年までに日本軍を駆逐。その後、ビルマとイギリスの間で独立に関する交渉が行われ、ビルマの独立は1948年1月4日に正式に認められた。

In 1942 during the Second World War, Japan mobilized to Burma in cooperation with the Burmese independent volunteers who are anti-British colonial control forces consisting of Burmese. On August 1, 1942, Burma declared independence from colonial rule, despite its nomenclature. At that time the puppet government by Japan was taught by the first President’s bar · mo. This puppet government continued for more than a year and a half, and the anti-Fascist People’s Liberties Union was formed in 1944 by nationalists led by Aung San. They consulted the British for cooperation, and by the year 1945 they exterminated the Japanese army. Thereafter, negotiations on independence were held between Burma and the UK, and the independence of Burma was officially recognized on January 4, 1948.
