光緒とは中国の「清」の時代に使用された年号である。そのため、この時代を治めていた徳宗は「光緒帝」と称されている。
中華人民共和国の直隷省で鋳造された。直隷省は現在の中国の河北省の一部である。
光緒元宝と一圓銀貨が初めて中国本土で作られた貨幣とされている。表には「壹圓」という文字が中央に刻まれ、その周りをモンゴル語と漢字が並んでいる。
「北洋機器局」とは初期の中国の近代的な兵器庫であり、「天津局」と呼ばれていた。名前の通り、主に兵器を製造する所で潜水艦や銃などの製造を行っていた。
